Board of Directors
BRIAN W. SIMS, Executive Director
US Army Infantry Veteran, Social Work Case Manager, Peer Recovery Specialist for Veterans, Recovery Support Specialist
Brian served in the US Army Infantry during the Global War on Terrorism. His experiences during his time in service led to the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When he returned to Civilian life, he had an extremely hard time adjusting. He would excel as an Executive-Level employee, until his PTSD, depression and rapid acceleration of Substance Use to self-medicate the latter, would prove to be too much to handle.
Brian ended up homeless on the streets of Miami, both alienating himself and withdrawing from family, friends and society. After a while, he decided upon a final solution to end his suffering. Suicide. His experience the day he attempted suicide is hailed as “nothing short of a miracle,” and he has been asked to share it with numerous people, countless times.
Brian, with the help of friends, family and fellow veterans, has accomplished countless feats of service since then. He feels it is his new mission to be of service to his fellow Veterans. He dreamed of an organization that would help ANY veteran and their families, regardless of time in service or discharge disposition. He feels that anyone who took the oath, and is in need, deserves help, and that EVERYONE deserves another chance.
“Fall down seven, get up EIGHT,” says Sims. ”I went through hell. WE went through hell. We can get through it together too. It’s my responsibility to have my hand extended, always. It’s my reciprocation for the life I get to lead today.” He is currently working on becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is the Communications Director for the State of Florida within the Non-Profit Organization Team Rubicon. http://www.teamrubiconusa.org
